For more than 100 years, The Rockefeller Foundation’s mission has been to promote the well-being of humanity throughout the world. Today, The Rockefeller Foundation pursues this mission through dual goals: advancing inclusive economies that expand opportunities for more broadly shared prosperity, and building resilience by helping people, communities and institutions prepare for, withstand, and emerge stronger from acute shocks and chronic stresses. To achieve these goals, The Rockefeller Foundation works at the intersection of four focus areas – advance health, revalue ecosystems, secure livelihoods, and transform cities – to address the root causes of emerging challenges and create systemic change. Together with partners and grantees, The Rockefeller Foundation strives to catalyze and scale transformative innovations, create unlikely partnerships that span sectors, and take risks others cannot – or will not. To learn more, please visit The Rockefeller Foundation realizes that there is not enough public and charitable capital to solve the world's social and environmental problems. In response, the Foundation has sought to leverage Program Related Investments (PRIs) as a powerful tool to complement grant-making in reaching their program goals. PRIs bring private sector discipline and efficiency to social ventures, often enabling recipient organizations to attract scale-up capital from commercial sources. The Foundation provides capital in the form of loans, equity, and guarantees, which align with the Foundation's issue areas.

The Rockefeller Foundation measures and monitors its work as it progresses, rather than waiting to evaluate the work only at its conclusion, drawing on standardized IRIS metrics whenever possible. Regular monitoring of portfolio investments helps determine whether the Foundation is achieving the intended results and impact. The Rockefeller Foundation continually considers feedback from staff, grantees, partners and beneficiaries. This enables The Rockefeller Foundation to seize unanticipated opportunities, shift tactics when necessary and recalibrate their approach. Together with grantees, The Rockefeller Foundation focuses on achieving social outcomes, implementing performance measurement and supporting learning and transformative change.

Other Impact Measurement Tools

In addition to using IRIS, The Rockefeller Foundation often requires their fund managers to get a GIIRS rating. GIIRS ratings provide investors with rigorous, reviewed transparent, comprehensive, and comparable ratings of Fund impact.
