Microenterprise

FIELD, an initiative of the Aspen Institute dedicated to advancing microenterprise, develops and disseminates best practices related to the U.S. microenterprise industry. As part of this work, FIELD developed MicroTracker, a set of core performance measures that help microenterprise programs gauge and improve both their institutional performance, and their clients' outcomes.

The table below shows the IRIS metrics that alignment with core MicroTracker measures, and includes FIELD's rationale for inclusion in blue text. For additional detail and explanation on the alignment of IRIS metrics with FIELD's MicroTracker tool, download the Microenterprise Metrics - Detailed IRIS Metrics Information PDF on the FIELD user registry page.

As with all IRIS metrics, it is important to state that interpretation of these metrics must also take into account other aspects of a company's context, and changes over time. Stand alone numbers cannot by themselves indicate positive or negative performance, or necessarily be compared across companies or products.
