Social Performance Metrics for Microfinance

The Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) and the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) have developed 11 indicators by which to measure the social performance of microfinance institutions (MFIs). These specific indicators are used to collect social performance data from MFIs around the world and provide a platform for benchmarking and analysis. The table below summarize these indicators and their alignment with IRIS metrics.

For more detail on the alignment, the MIX’s social performance indicators handbook, and a detailed table outlining the rationale for selecting each IRIS metric are both available for download on the MIX and SPTF user registry page.

As with all IRIS metrics, it is important to state that interpretation of these metrics must also take into account other aspects of a company's context, and changes over time. Stand alone numbers cannot by themselves indicate positive or negative social value, or necessarily be compared across companies or products.
