The initiative maintains a repository of IRIS performance data reported from across the impact investing field. Funds and companies contribute data to IRIS on a voluntary basis and with the knowledge that their data will be used only to produce anonymous aggregate reports.
The IRIS initiative is currently in the process of developing an initial set of performance benchmarks that draws upon these data contributions. These benchmarks will allow organizations and investors to better understand their performance relative to their peers and relative to the broader set of contributing organizations.
The First IRIS Performance Data Report is Released
Data Driven: A Performance Analysis for the Impact Investing Industry
The first data report of the IRIS initiative presents early findings from 2,394 organizations - including 1,931 microfinance institutions and 463 mission-driven organizations - that work with leading impact investment intermediaries. This report signals a new level of sophistication for the impact investing industry by providing an early glimpse into industry characteristics and the performance of organizations receiving and seeking impact investment capital. In addition to presenting early aggregated performance data, this report's objective is to drive widespread adoption of IRIS and to encourage impact investors, funds, and mission-driven organizations to strengthen future market intelligence by voluntarily contributing data for analysis through IRIS data collection partners. As more social, environmental, and financial performance data is collected by the IRIS initiative, the resulting analysis will help the impact investing community make better informed decisions and facilitate more effective use of impact investment capital.
